About Prof. Dr. Alovsat Muslumov

Born in Nakhcivan in 1976, Alovsat Muslumov holds a BA from Istanbul University, an MBA in finance from the Istanbul Technical University, and a PhD in finance from Boğaziçi University.

He previously held positions as a professor of finance in Dogus University, Istanbul (2001-2008) and Istanbul Bilgi University (2006-2010). He has also served as visiting professor at Bogazici University (2003), Yeditepe University (2008), Azerbaijan State Economics University (2010-2014) and ADA University (2013-2018). He has taught courses on finance, banking, and accounting in the bachelor, MBA, and Ph.D. programs. Professor Muslumov has also taught in executive programs in Turkey and Azerbaijan and has spoken to a wide variety of organizations on issues of finance, banking and accounting.

His research interests focus on macroeconomic transmission mechanism, financial development, financial regulation, privatization, market efficiency, trading strategies, mergers, SMEs and corporate governance issues. An empiricist, he investigates applied problems using real-world data. He is a prolific author and researcher, having written four books and published more than 50 articles in academic journals and conference proceedings.  His books include Turkish SME’s in 21st Century (Literature Publications, 2002), The Financial Analysis of Mergers (Capital Market Board Press, 2003), The Role of Institutional Investors in Stock Market Development (Association of Institutional Investors Managers Press, 2003), Exchange Rate Regimes and Effects on the Economy (Young Businessman Association of Turkey Press, 2003).

Professor Muslumov was the youngest associate professor (received the position in 2003 at the age of 27) and full professor (received the position in 2008 at the age of 32) ever in Turkey. He was also the recipient of the Best Paper Award given by Young Businessman Association of Turkey (TUGIAD) in 2003 and Best Paper Award given by Turkish Institutional Investment Managers’ Association (TKYD) in 2003.

He served as consultant to Yapi Kredi Bank, Akbank, Vakifbank and Dun Bradstreet for risk management and NAB Group of Companies for corporate development issues. He was affiliated as Chief Financial Officer for Azersun Group of Companies (2009-2012) and later in Union Grand Energy Group (2012 till today). Professor Muslumov is the founding CEO of Baku Business Factory aiming to support startups in Azerbaijan.

As an entrepreneur, Professor Muslumov is the cofounder of Code Academy, Baku an IT education company. He believed technology is a golden opportunity to make the world a more equal, fairer place for everyone, but noticed a distinct lack of academic opportunities for Azerbaijan youth who were venturing on their journey to become IT professionals. He set out to solve this problem by creating Code Academy.

Professor Muslumov is the father of four children, Sems, Elmira, Tuncer and Gul.
